Joe Alexander quits The Martin Agency

Here’s a funny one – funny peculiar that is.

The Martin Agency’s CCO Joe Alexander (below) has abruptly departed after 26 years in various roles at the agency, with only a terse announcement to mark his departure. The affable and capable Martin has made a huge contribution to the Richmond Virginia based agency over the years – notably on multi-award winning Geico – although the Interpublic-owned agency has retrenched recently, closing its New York office earlier this year. Its London operation has still to fire.

Doubtless more will emerge and Alexander will surely pop up somewhere else. All the big holding companies are suffering from slow or no growth at the moment and, maybe, cutting back on their rambling networks. Senior people often find themselves under fire in such circumstances.

Even so the departure of Alexander is more than unexpected.
