Wieden+Kennedy lays its cards on the table for Three
UK phone operator Three’s ‘same price phone calls from abroad’ offer is a good one and agency Wieden+Kennedy has flogged it to the masses with a certain brio.
Now it’s adding Spain, still the biggest overseas holiday destination for the UK, with three plonkers on a sofa.
Always tricky to include Facebook et al in a commercial but it succeeds. MAA creative scale: 6.5.
W+K is getting back to normal life after the drama of losing Tesco to BBH. The agency must have been slightly alarmed to see stories emerging in the weekend papers that Three owner Hutchison Whampoa is to bid for Telefonica’s O2 in the UK, hard on the heels of BT’s agreed bid for EE.
Would Hutchison keep both brands – and O2 is bigger? O2 is handled by VCCP and its ‘Be More Dog’ campaign vies with W+K’s work for Three as the best mobile advertising in the UK. I suspect neither agency would welcome a winner-takes-all shoot-out.
