The New York Times has lots of subscribers these days and one such is Questlove, aka Ahmir Khalib Thompson, a music and all-round cultural maven it seems.
He’s the star of the latest NYT ad from Droga5, now the agency’s flagship account. The overall theme is independent journalism with a tour of the NYT’s multi-faceted offerings.
Once you cotton on to Questlove and his “poetry of stillness” it rattles along at a fair old pace, another deserved feather in D5’s NYT cap.
Certainly as good as any newspaper advertising we can recall, no mean feat in the digital age. This one won’t be eligible for Cannes 2022 but expect there’ll be more Lions coming client and agency’s way.
