Is Bude post office’s Christmas ad better than John Lewis?

People in the UK and elsewhere make their own Christmas ads for the YouTube era and Luke Francis, postmaster at Bude in north Cornwall, has entered the lists with this opus about granny being “locked away.” Filmed in Cornwall with Luke’s family and friends (and him) in starring roles.

Francis says: “People say it’s better than John Lewis. That’s all they’ve been saying all day, that it’s better than John Lewis, that they want it to go national.”

That may be pushing it a bit but we’ve seen a lot worse.

Cornwall is due to go into the UK government’s new Tier One restrictions (ie not so many) on Wednesday while poor old Devon, just over the road, is set for Tier Two. Let’s hope granny lives on the right side of the border.

Bude Post Office: sweet but editing at least 60 seconds out would have made it tighter, without losing emotional impact.
