McCann recaptures Opel/Vauxhall from new owner PSA

Opel/Vauxhall has picked McCann to handle its European ad account from a new base in Frankfurt. Opel/Vauxhall is now owned by Peugeot and Citroen owner PSA which bought it from General Motors in 2017. McCann pitched against German incumbent Scholz & Friends plus Havas and Publicis.

Mother handles Vauxhall in the UK, for now anyway. McCann handles GM in the US. It also handled Opel/Vauxhall for long periods in the UK and Europe when it was owned by GM.

VW is also currently reviewing its creative advertising with a holding company review which now no longer includes McCann owner Interpublic.

All the big car companies are trying to save costs as the market changes dramatically with the growth of electric vehicles and the demise of diesel due to emissions problems.

Strangely it looks like indie agencies are losing out; a sign, perhaps, that the holding companies are cutting their prices to fend off competition from them and the consultants.
