Wieden+Kennedy HQ in Portland has entered the anguished debate in the US about this week’s shootings by police of two black men – Alton Sterling and Philando Castile – with this post on its website.
It concludes with: “Just an FYI, not for sympathy. Just acknowledging this because it should be acknowledged.” Followed by the #blacklivesmatter hashtag.
Is it appropriate for an agency to comment thus? It’s addressing its staff of course, so it’s quite entitled.
And, as America becomes worryingly polarised, it’s brave and appropriate too.
