Australian store Myer dares to be funny about a Covid Christmas – and pulls it off

It takes a brave agency and client combination to poke fun at the year we’ve had, but Clemenger BBDO and department store Myer succeed brilliantly in this tragically humorous round-up of all the things we’ve missed in 2020.

“You got married in the kitchen, turned 50 in your bed, finished high school in the hallway and got christened in the shed.” The list of missed celebrations goes on, building up to the conclusion that we will have to pack the whole lot into one day, at Christmas.

It’s triumphant, tragic and funny all at the same time. Hard to imagine anything like this being done in the UK, where the Christmas ads have all played it so safe this year.
