Sky enlists Comcast power for blockbuster Christmas ET ad

1982 was a big year in advertising with the birth of Wieden+Kennedy and Bartle Bogle Hegarty and there was also a rather popular movie, Steven Spielberg’s ET.

ET is back in a blockbuster Sky Christmas ad, made by Sky Creative Agency (SCA) and new owner Comcast’s US agency Goodby Silverstein. Henry Thomas, who played ET’s pal Elliott 37 years ago, is back as a dad. Spielberg is involved too with the great man supervising the storyboard.

So it had better be good.

The pitch is that Sky connects everything and everybody but really it’s about creating a nice warm feeling about the satellite broadcasting giant (and its movie offer.)

Interesting too in the light it casts on ad agencies in the current global era. When it comes to the real biggies they’re collaborators with in-house muscle.

MAA creative scale: another 9. There’ve been some Christmas crackers this year although not always from the usual suspects.
