Grey poaches two from BBH as new broom Rossi tries to rebuild creative credentials

Grey London, doubtless smarting from the loss of long-standing client Lucozade to adam&eveDDB and the departure of high profile CCO Vicki Maguire to Havas, has hired two new creative directors – Matt Moreland and Chris Clarke from BBH (below).

Which, in turn, might make BBH’s creative department look rather depleted – CCO Ian Heartfield recently announced he was joining James Murphy and David Golding at their new agency although, for now, he’s still at BBH.

Grey creative chairman Adrian Rossi, now filling the (metaphorically) large shoes of former Grey creative chief Nils Leonard, says: “Matt and Chris are the definition of a modern team. They have continually pushed creative boundaries on every platform, producing truly integrated campaigns. They are hungry as hell and the nicest chaps going. Talent that huge without ego is rarer than hens’ teeth.”

Moreland says: “Once we met Adrian and heard his vision for Grey, we were sold. Someone with his pedigree and passion was simply impossible to turn down.”

Rossi was joint ECD at AMV BBDO before joining Grey. Suddenly creative talent is all the rage in holding company-owned agencies after years of relative neglect. Some big salaries are no doubt on offer to those creatives still left standing.
