Debenhams out of the Christmas blocks first with JWT ‘Wishes Made Fabulous’ campaign

Unknown-7Don’t’cha love Christmas ads?

We’re still waiting for Marks & Sparkle’s epic which is due out on Wednesday (I think) but we know it features Rosie Huntington-Whitely (a posh model) and a Highland Terrier.

And the big event, as ever, will be Adam&Eve/DDB’s assault on the nation’s sensibilities – with many in the ad world secretly hoping they fall on their noses at last. One our regular writers (no prizes) who shops at the posh end of John Lewis, Peter Jones in Sloane Square, noticed that its Christmas theme was ‘Give someone a Christmas they’ll never forget.’ Will this be in the A&E ad? The best way to arrange this would be not to give them anything, but enough of that Scrooge talk.

Another UK department store, Debenhams, has been quicker out of the blocks, with this JWT campaign, ‘Wishes Made Fabulous,’ featuring a love-lorn couple (and lots of spare totty) wandering around Budapest. There’s more than a nod to John Lewis epics of the past.

It’s OK; the agency’s job isn’t made any easier by needing to name check the brands with concessions in Debenhams – not a problem JL or M&S face.

We shall try to make this business a bit more interesting by having a competition for best Christmas ad. so JWT’s in the lead I guess – not for long though, surely.
