Ex-David duo launch fast-expanding GUT in Brazil

Here’s an interesting agency newbie, GUT (we usually frown on capped-up agencies but maybe they deserve it) is opening in São Paulo, its third office opening in a year after Miami and Buenos Aires.

GUT was formed by David co-founders Anselmo Ramos and Gaston Bigio. Miami-based David (named after David Ogilvy) was one of WPP’s better ideas, producing outstanding work for Burger King among others.

The new Brazil office already has 11 employees and will be led by MD Valeria Barone, formerly at Hyper Island, and ECD Bruno Brux from Grey Brazil (below with the founders.)

Founder Ramos says: “I was born and raised in Brazil. I’ve always wanted to have an independent agency in my country. Now it’s finally happening. We want GUT São Paulo to be the most creative and gutsy agency of Brazil.”

Bigio says:“We can’t believe that we opened three offices in three countries in less than a year. We’ve already become an independent network. It’s insane.”

Adland is crying out for some heavyweight new agencies that can challenge the stuttering holding companies. David was a big success for WPP and Ramos, Bigio and their crew look to have the potential to do it all over again.
