MediaCom boss Stephen Allan says some people are “liberated” by Sorrell exit
At last, an interesting comment from a WPP insider about the departure of Sir Martin Sorrell.
Stephen Allan (below), CEO of WPP’s biggest media agency MediaCom and a veteran of the UK and international media scene, has told the BBC that some people in WPP (including himself presumably) will feel “liberated” by SMS’ departure although he acknowledges his achievements. Sorrell’s obsessive hands-on management must, in truth, have driven the likes of Allan nuts.
He also mentions, in the clip above, that some people resented Sorrell’s recent downplaying of WPP’s fortunes and its prospects. some parts were doing well he says, not least MediaCom which has bounced back from losing £2bn Volkswagen with a string of triumphs, latterly retaining Sky’s £425m UK and Europe media account.
