Here’s how Sony can recreate past glories for Bravia
Sony is looking for a new agency to launch its new Bravia TVs in Europe according to Campaign.
Last year it used adam&eveDDB but nearly everyone’s agency of the year isn’t good enough it seems – or not without a pitch.
But that’s Sony for you. Since David Patton left to run Grey EMEA it’s been all over the place.
Bravia’s high watermark was this ad from 2005, from Fallon in the UK building on a line originated by TBWA in the US (fired shortly afterwards).
David Patton told me recently that he wasn’t sure you could put all your eggs in one basket like this in these multi-channel days. Well he should know but I don’t know if I agree. It just lasts and lasts.
Anyway, let’s save Sony some time and money and suggest an option or two.
Here’s the ‘Making Of’ film with some of the leading lights. It’s worth a look whether you’re interested in the people or not.
Account man Chris Willingham, who fought the whole thing through, is now global business director on Nike at Wieden+Kennedy. Art director Juan Cabral is now a celebrated commercials director at MJZ (one of his first jobs was directing Cadbury’s ‘Gorilla,’ also for Fallon). ‘Balls’ director Nicolai Fuglsig, who seems a good sport as well as being an accomplished writer and photographer, is also at MJZ. So he and Cabral can fight over the director’s chair. ECD Richard Flintham left Fallon breakaway 101 a couple of years ago so he might be available.
Or Sony could just ring 101. Or Patton at Grey.
There you are, job done.
