Carlo Cavollone is responsible for all creative and culture at 72andSunny Amsterdam. Previously he was at Wieden+Kennedy in Amsterdam – for almost nine years – as a writer for Nike, Coca-Cola, Heineken and as a CD for EA Sports and Turkcell. He joined 72andSunny LA in 2010 as a creative director on Sonos and Pirelli. In September 2011 he moved back to the Netherlands to oversee global accounts including Pirelli, Benetton, Samsung and Bacardi. He’s a former rugby player, a fanzine editor, sci-fi shorts director and a conspiracy theories believer.
The best ads of 2014
These are some of my favourite ads from this year. Not the only ones I liked but the ones I think I feel closer to, reflect my passions more: sport, good cinema, good music, TV-watching and cute kittens.
1. Beats: The Game Before The Game
This film was the moral winner at the 2014 Advertising World Cup in Brazil. Better than adidas and Nike combined. How did they do it? They actually had an insight that made sense and no Pixar-style cartoons.

2. IKEA: Beds
This is a very good piece of film. Eerie, clever, and very well shot. Like Little Nemo’s Adventures in Slumberland directed by Chris Nolan. Are IKEA beds that good? That has to be seen.

3. Samsung ASP: Every Day is Day One
It’s surf minus all the typical surf film stereotypes plus a cool David Bowie cover. What else do you need?

4. Nike Hypervenom: Mirrors
If you really have to bring back the mirror scene from Enter The Dragon and Bruce Lee, you might as well do it for Nike and Neymar Jr.

5. HBO GO: Happily Married Parents
This ad is part of a really funny and insightful campaign about home TV-watching. The casting and the acting are spot on. And it makes you cringe as much as the best HBO shows.
6. McVities: Kittens
As said, I like cute kittens.
