WPP in 2012 - solid but not spectacular

WPP in 2012 – solid but not spectacular

By Stephen Foster on March 1, 2013

WPP more or less matched rivals Publicis Groupe and Havas, beat Interpublic but lagged Omnicom with growth of 2.9 per cent in 2012, according to its full year accounts released today. Billings fell slightly to around £44bn (blamed on the weaker pound) while pre-tax profits increased 3.5 per cent to £1.3bn on revenue of £10.4bn. [...]

Five key questions investors should ask WPP

Five key questions investors should ask WPP

By Stephen Foster on February 27, 2013

WPP announces its 2012 results on Friday and the odds are that they’re going to be good – if the recent hike in its share price is anything to go by. WPP, because of its scale and the number of companies it owns in different sectors of the global ad market, has become a kind [...]

Greek TV airtime broking disaster comes back to haunt Leo Burnett and owner Publicis Groupe

Greek TV airtime broking disaster comes back to haunt Leo Burnett and owner Publicis Groupe

By Stephen Foster on February 26, 2013

Top Publicis Groupe executive Mathias Emmerich (left) and the former CEO of Leo Burnett Greece Petros Venetis may be charged by Greek prosecutors over a €200m TV airtime broking deal that went disastrously wrong and led to the closure of Leo Burnett in Greece. Publicis Groupe offered creditors a percentage of the airtime value in [...]

Publicis Groupe merges Digitas with LBi to create global digital super-agency

By Stephen Foster on February 5, 2013

Publicis Groupe CEO Maurice Levy (left) is busily tidying up his digital agency assets after splashing out $540m on digital agency network LBi last year. PG is creating a new global super-network called Digitas LBi combining LBi (which is strongest outside America) with Digitas which is massive in the States. LBi’s Luke Taylor will be [...]

Publicis Groupe/BBH deal starts to unravel as key agency Neogama loses two biggest accounts

Publicis Groupe/BBH deal starts to unravel as key agency Neogama loses two biggest accounts

By Stuart Smith on January 30, 2013

Not all fairy tales have a happy ending. One such is the marriage of convenience between Brazilian hotshop Neogama, its micro-network affiliate BBH and Publicis Groupe. Readers will recall that, a little over six months ago, Publicis chief Maurice Lévy bought out the 51 per cent of BBH PG did not already own. A useful [...]

Will 2013 be the year WPP leaves its holding company competitors behind?

Will 2013 be the year WPP leaves its holding company competitors behind?

By Stephen Foster on January 2, 2013

Well it’s already the biggest of a bunch also numbering Omnicom, Publicis Groupe, Interpublic, Aegis/Dentsu and Havas so what’s new about 2013? According to an interesting piece in MediaPost, which has chosen to award WPP a new gong as holding company of 2012, the difference between WPP and its competitors is its various proprietary systems [...]

Where are we as we go into the (pre-Christmas) weekend? PG/IPG, Sorrell, Wieden and Murdoch

Where are we as we go into the (pre-Christmas) weekend? PG/IPG, Sorrell, Wieden and Murdoch

By Stephen Foster on December 21, 2012

It’s been an interesting year but one that, as Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle put it, more noted for “the dog that didn’t bark.” The dog that didn’t bark, even though lots of people thought they heard its woof, was Publicis Groupe’s bid for Interpublic. This was the big story of the summer [...]

Bon Noel from Publicis Groupe's Maurice Levy

Bon Noel from Publicis Groupe’s Maurice Levy

By Staff on December 11, 2012

Here’s Maurice Levy’s Christmas card from Publicis Groupe. It’s been an interesting year for PG; a good financial performance by peer group standards, the acquisition of LBi and a neat and advantageous exit from its partnership with Dentsu. But is there something lacking? Flagship agency Publicis Worldwide still doesn’t stand for much apart from lots [...]

New Nestle USA boss Paul Grimwood reviews $800m account

A new client usually means an agency review and new boss of Nestle USA, Brit Paul Grimwood (left), is no exception. Other bits of the account including creative, digital and PR are [...]

Publicis Groupe snaps up fashionable AR New York

Publicis Groupe snaps up fashionable AR New York

By Angie Dean on December 6, 2012

Fashion items and luxury goods have proved remarkably resilient during the recession with big-spendng clients preferring to stay with smaller specialists rather than entrusting their precious wares to big agencies. So Publicis Groupe is buying specialist agency AR New York whose clients include Banana Republic, Brioni, Smartwater and Jimmy Choo (left). The agency was founded [...]
