Wieden+Kennedy hits top form with Angry Birds epic

Wieden+Kennedy London has struck a rich vein of form since it waved goodbye to Tesco – BBH beware – and here’s another campaign featuring its current trademark: anarchic zest.

Gaming giant Rovio is launching Angry Birds 2 (actually there’ve been lots of additions but never mind). The new film is set on Piggy Island, “a luxurious and delightfully surreal paradise, where happy pigs frolic in the sunshine and swim in crystal clear waters. But Piggy Island is soon revealed to be the setting of an attack by a furious squad of Angry Birds, who have been plotting to take their revenge on their arch enemy, the sneaky, flightless egg-thieving creatures who share the island with them.”

The film was actually shot on Pig Island, or Big Major Cay, in the Bahamas, which indeed plays host to a group of wild swimming pigs. We’re reliably informed that the pigs all survived. American dentists obviously haven’t discovered them yet…

The cinematographer was Martin Ruhe, director was François Rousselet through Riff Raff with post production by The Mill.

Good to see W+K back in the game, up there with with adam&eveDDB and AMV BBDO among the outstanding UK performers so far this year (with Brothers and Sisters butting in).

MAA creative scale: 9.
