Havas is doing OK says CEO David Jones as it wins Unilever's data business

Havas is doing OK says CEO David Jones as it wins Unilever’s data business

By Stephen Foster on November 7, 2012

Havas increased its revenues by 11 per cent in the third quarter of this year to $546m but organic growth was down to the same disappointing levels of about two per cent reported by rivals WPP and Publicis Groupe; more evidence that the calamitous collapse of business confidence in the eurozone is hammering the big [...]

Victors & Spoils duo run off – with Havas spoils

By Staff on October 9, 2012

And then there was one. Back in April Havas bought Boulder, Colorado crowd-sourcing agency Victors & Spoils in what looked to some like an audacious bet on the future, to others complete madness. Co-founder Claudia Batten was off to set up her own thing almost as soon as the ink was dry and now another [...]

Why Havas would be a great deal for Omnicom

Why Havas would be a great deal for Omnicom

By Stephen Foster on July 16, 2012

Poor David Jones (pictured), the charismatic and youthful CEO of Havas isn’t usually left as the wallflower on the sidelines of the ad business but that’s exactly where he is at the moment. A Dentsu takeover of media buyer Aegis, long seen as a partner for Havas (Havas chairman Vincent Bollore was the biggest shareholder [...]

Can anything - client conflicts, another bidder - derail the Aegis /Dentsu deal?

Can anything – client conflicts, another bidder – derail the Aegis /Dentsu deal?

By Stephen Foster on July 15, 2012

Aegis CEO Jerry Buhlmann (left) had an interview in the Sunday Times Business News today (there’s no point in providing a link as the Times paywall is a drawbridge) saying, inter alia, that there was no conflct between his giant media buying contract with General Motors and Dentsu’s Toyota, that key shareholder Vincent Bollore was [...]

Here's the official Aegis selling out to Dentsu story

Here’s the official Aegis selling out to Dentsu story

By Stephen Foster on July 12, 2012

As delivered to Ad Age, just as BBH boss Nigel Bogle did last week when BBH sold the outstanding 51 per cent shareholding to Publicis Groupe for, we think, about €100m. Can’t think why they don’t share these intelligences with us. Aegis got very cross with us for suggesting that its $3bn global account win [...]

Last big independent media player Aegis goes as it agrees to £3bn sale to Japan's Dentsu

Last big independent media player Aegis goes as it agrees to £3bn sale to Japan’s Dentsu

By Stephen Foster on July 12, 2012

Well we didn’t see this one coming. Aegis, the global media planning and buying group, has agreed a $3.16bn sale to Japanese marcoms giant Dentsu, owner of the Mcgarrybowen creative agency. The 240p a share offer is a 48 per cent premium to yesterday’s share price in London which valued the company at £1.9bn. So, [...]

Apres Sorrell le deluge says David Jones of Havas

Apres Sorrell le deluge says David Jones of Havas

By Stephen Foster on June 21, 2012

Well he is the boss of a French company and speaks good French, although Havas CEO David Jones (left) was chatting to Campaign in English when he remarked that WPP would collapse on its nose if and when CEO Sir Martin Sorrell departs. Sorrell, of course, has been under fire from WPP shareholders over his [...]

What’s Vincent Bollore up to with his Havas share buy-back (apart from becoming even richer)?

By Stephen Foster on March 27, 2012

Havas is to spend €253m ($336m) buying back 12 per cent of its shares, a move that will boost majority owner Vincent Bollore’s shareholding from 32.84 per cent to 37.32 per cent. The buy-back is at €4.90 share, a healthy 21 per cent premium to the current price and values Havas at around €2bn. Havas [...]

Is the China agency market ready for Fred & Farid?

Is the China agency market ready for Fred & Farid?

By Staff on March 12, 2012

It seems entirely appropriate that Fred & Farid, the indie Paris agency 30 per cent owned by Havas chairman Vincent Bollore, is planning to set up shop in Shanghai in a former opium warehouse. It’s also not really a surprise that the enfants terrible are making a big song and dance now about something that [...]
