There must be times when a client is sitting in their ad agency meeting room having just seen creative proposals, wondering what to say next. This must have been the position the team from BetVictor were in at VCCP when they saw the suggested idea for their brand – Paul Kaye in a variety of [...]

**Long-suffering music business HMV has finally toppled into administration as suppliers have refused more credit. It’s all about downloads of course, there aren’t enough old farts (like me) hunting around for CDs. The move follows hard on the heels of the Virgin music business in France going down the tubes (Sir Richard got out years [...]

Audience researcher Nielsen reckons a Meerkats ad from VCCP was the most-liked ad on UK TV last year followed by efforts for the British Heart Foundation (Vinnie Jones from Grey), Kerrygold butter, John Lewis, Birds Eye Foods, Lindt chocolates, Andrex (a guide dogs appeal), TV marketing body Thinkbox, Carte Noire coffee and Cathedral City cheese. Oh dear, ads with sportsmen in them do so tend to backfire. This effort is from O2 and VCCP, dishing out 1,000 ‘priority tickets’ to customers for the England All Blacks game on Saturday. And, not unreasonably, it features England captain Chris Robshaw (in weird slow motion) looking all tough with a black eye, genuine [...]

Ambulance-chasing ads drive you up the wall if, like me, you end up watching too many digital channels of an afternoon as you escape from the computer before commencing the evening’s entertainments. But Now, the agency we forecast might become Then, has made its debut with a chirpy ad for one such company, Claims Direct. [...]

Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam is continuing its policy of poaching top London talent, luring Thierry Albert and Faustin Claverie from VCCP to join as creative directors. At VCCP the duo worked on successful pitches for Macmillan Cancer Nurse and McLaren Automotive as well as the O2 account while at their previous agency Mother they worked on pitches [...]

Of all the agencies in London that don’t do ‘safe’ Mother and Wieden+Kennedy are probably the two stand-outs. Mother didn’t pitch for Tesco’s £110m account (probably because it has Boots) but Wieden+Kennedy (which didn’t seem at all like a Tesco agency when this pitch process began) has beaten VCCP and TBWA Manchester to the whopper [...]

Price comparison website Gocompare.com has moved its account from indie creative team Chris Wilkins and Sian Vickers to Dare (which used to handle rival operation Moneysupermarket.com, now at Mother). And it’s decided to kill off its signature tenor Gio Compario (in truth some Welsh bloke), otherwise why change agencies? So this is its new ad, [...]
