Oreo takes another bite of Wieden+Kennedy

Oreo takes another bite of Wieden+Kennedy

By Staff on March 2, 2013

Wieden+Kennedy beat agency of record DraftFCB to the task of making Oreo’s Super Bowl ad and it always seemed rather odd that brand owner Mondelez (officially at least) stuck to the story that Oreo would then return to DraftFCB for business as usual. Then The Martin Agency appeared from left field, tasked with creative duties [...]

Oscars challenges Super Bowl as creative adfest

Oscars challenges Super Bowl as creative adfest

By Stephen Foster on February 26, 2013

As my friend Stuart Smith has remarked, events like the Super Bowl and now The Oscars are, arguably, more important showcases for agencies (US ones anyway) than events like Cannes or The One Show. So thanks to the excellent Brandchannel for providing the whole set (or pretty much the whole set, I didn’t actually watch [...]

Eric Newnham, adman Robin Williams, the Super Bowl - and where are this year's really good ads?

Eric Newnham, adman Robin Williams, the Super Bowl – and where are this year’s really good ads?

By Stephen Foster on February 8, 2013

Former Kinetic boss Eric Newnham has shaken up the out of home buying business no end by winning huge chunks of business for his UK indie Talon. Biggest client is Omnicom’s OMG; next big one might be one of Publicis Groupe’s Starcom or Zenith. Might Omnicom or PG decide to take out this impertinent outsider? [...]

W+K gets over the line with Super Bowl Oreo spot

W+K gets over the line with Super Bowl Oreo spot

By Angie Dean on February 4, 2013

Here’s Wieden+Kennedy’s Oreo Super Bowl ad for Mondelez, with the obligatory consumer competition this time using Instagram. As everybody expected it’s a cookies vs cream bunfight, appropriately over the top and set in a library. And the verdict? It’s OK, doesn’t drop the ball.

Super Bowl 2013: Mercedes CLA offers a Faustian pact while Go Daddy isn't rude at all

Super Bowl 2013: Mercedes CLA offers a Faustian pact while Go Daddy isn’t rude at all

By Stephen Foster on January 31, 2013

OK, here’s Merkley & Partner’s Super Bowl effort for the Mercedes CLA. This version anyway is 5×30 seconds, which comes in at about $20m on airtime (maybe they’re getting a volume discount). And surely the voiceover says you can get one of these fine machines for under three thousand dollars – huh? Kate Upton appeared [...]

Super Bowl 2013: Now Hyundai US enters the lists

Super Bowl 2013: Now Hyundai US enters the lists

By Stephen Foster on January 30, 2013

Earlier today we had Hyundai Canada’s Super Bowl contender, now here’s the US version (these South Koreans really buy into that Super Bowl vibe – $4m for thirty seconds). This is for the Santa Fe SUV and you can see why Hyundai and sibling Kia are storming up the world auto charts – it looks [...]

More contenders for the great Super Bowl adfest - Taco Bell and Hyundai Canada

More contenders for the great Super Bowl adfest – Taco Bell and Hyundai Canada

By Angie Dean on January 30, 2013

Here we go: Deutsch LA have been busy bees; producing VW’s Jamaican-themed opus for the Super Bowl on Sunday and also this one for Taco Bell showing a bunch of senior citizens partying at the popular eaterie. Deutsch recently muscled onto the Taco Bell roster alongside ‘lead’ agency DraftFCB (both agencies are owned by Interpublic). [...]

VW's Super bowl ad will be the world's most expensive at $10m - but will it do the business?

VW’s Super bowl ad will be the world’s most expensive at $10m – but will it do the business?

By Stuart Smith on January 29, 2013

Roll up, roll up, for the most expensive ad in the world. Volkswagen is about to spend $10m on a single, minute-long airtime execution. Why so pricey? Well, it’s not production values that make it so – however meticulous the ad’s attention to detail – but the fact that it is airing during America’s premier [...]

It's a spaceman with everything for Unilever's Axe and Super Bowl agency BBH

It’s a spaceman with everything for Unilever’s Axe and Super Bowl agency BBH

By Stephen Foster on January 29, 2013

BBH London must have been quite chuffed when they got the gig to produce Axe’s first Super Bowl spot – and then they discovered it had to star a bloody astronaut. Axe owner Unilever has launched a space promotion for new brand Axe Apollo (actually we don’t know whether the space wheeze promotion or the [...]

Mercedes in the US polishes up its pre-Super Bowl act with Kate Upton and a wet windscreen

It’s cars all the way at MAA right now after Jerry Judge and Paul Simons put the cat among the pigeons about car ads. We’re also looking forward to lots of metal-pushing petrol head stuff to come in the Super Bowl. Mercedes is getting its retaliation in first with this online film featuring our old [...]
