Meta bets on people in a wildly optimistic AI promo
Meta’s new campaign goes heavy on optimism around AI, somehow explaining this worldview by saying “We’re betting on people, and we like those odds.” The company highlights its history of connecting people, and says: “While technology will change, our intention behind it never will.” The film is appearing on paid media as well as its own platforms.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s accompanying post reads, “Meta has always believed in giving people the power to share, connect, and shape your world in the ways you want. As we enter this next wave with AI, we continue to believe the future is for everyone. We’re focused on giving every person the tools to reach your full potential and making sure the benefits of technology are distributed to everyone.”
The approach can ring hollow when you know that Meta recently lost a social media addiction trial in California and a child safety case in Mexico (although the company plans to appeal). But if Meta’s “The future is for everyone” message is spread widely enough, people might buy into it.
AI’s impact is so uncertain that such an optimistic approach is as good a one as any. Dollar Shave Club’s current campaign has had some fun with the technology, using it to create a pair of testicles for a truck as a way to demonstrate its ball spray product – which has got to be a lot better than showing the real thing.
