Neil Christie is managing director of Wieden+Kennedy London, one of the UK’s most awarded agencies and, since winning Tesco and Three among others, one of its biggest. He began his career in 1984 as a ‘lowly dogsbody’ (his words) at Allen Brady & Marsh, moving via Yellowhammer and BBH to become managing director of TBWA [...]

It’s war out there with pesky TV viewers fast-forwarding through ads when they watch recorded programmes. So DDB Brussels has produced what it calls a ‘Slowmercial’ for the Beetle cabriolet; a less than compelling film of the roof opening that it claims even fast-forwarders will see for about the same time they would a print [...]

Our frenemies at Google have produced a Smileage’ app with Volkswagen that endeavours to put the fun back into driving – with a ‘Smileage’ metric, of course. Apparently you can tailor the app to any make of car, although it’s hard to see how it would work with a Lada, for example. No doubt it [...]

Here we go: Deutsch LA have been busy bees; producing VW’s Jamaican-themed opus for the Super Bowl on Sunday and also this one for Taco Bell showing a bunch of senior citizens partying at the popular eaterie. Deutsch recently muscled onto the Taco Bell roster alongside ‘lead’ agency DraftFCB (both agencies are owned by Interpublic). [...]

Roll up, roll up, for the most expensive ad in the world. Volkswagen is about to spend $10m on a single, minute-long airtime execution. Why so pricey? Well, it’s not production values that make it so – however meticulous the ad’s attention to detail – but the fact that it is airing during America’s premier [...]

It’s quite refreshing to see a car that’s designed to be fast in an ad showing just that – how fast it is. Most car ads these days, in the UK at least, are forever banging on about how good they are for the planet (often by using highly misleading figures). No such nonsense in [...]

Blimey, all this emocion, it’s all too much. Here’s a new one from DDB London from VW’s Polo, set to launch this weekend to try to cut through the schlock of ITV’s talents shows. It’s another one of these ‘journey’ things, this time called ‘Stays in Safe hands.’ All from the point of view of [...]

Mars has won the best advertiser gong at this year’s Cannes International Festival of Creativity (maybe because it’s there, Mars that is) but Cannes could save itself a lot of bother by just giving it to Volkswagen every year. VW’s advertising is quite remarkable and here are two more extravagantly understated US ads from Deutsch [...]

Fika is the Swedish word for coffee break apparently and it’s the theme of this new ad, featuring naughty-but-nice spokesman Johan, for Gevalia coffee from brand owner Kraft and current agency of the moment Taxi New York (a month ago it was Droga5 but things happen quickly at the once sleepy food and snacks company [...]
