Social media is inescapable these days whether you’re writing about business (is Facebook going up or down, what’s next, etc) or just walking along a street packed with zombies consulting their mobile devices. And as for people in the same small office emailing each other…. P&G Asia Pacific has decided its good to talk though [...]

My first real agency job in the US after escaping England for the second time was with Benton & Bowles, which after many dumb fuck mergers became DMB&B, which was acquired by Publicis and closed down by le frogs in 2002 after it turned to merde. When I joined what was then a great US [...]

WPP agencies Grey and JWT have been appointed ‘lead’ agencies on giant bank HSBC’s £400m global creative account while Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi has won its wealth management business. The business was put up for review last year. JWT was the incumbent although the bank’s last notable advertising was from Lowe with its ‘world’s [...]

A new client usually means an agency review and new boss of Nestle USA, Brit Paul Grimwood (left), is no exception. Nestle USA has announced a wide-ranging review of its $800m or so ad budget, starting with media currently handled by Publicis Groupe’s ZenithOptimedia. Other bits of the account including creative, digital and PR are [...]

Procter & Gamble is reviewing its massive Gillette shaving business currently at BBDO. Omnicom-owned BBDO is going to defend the account and will face competition from roster agency groups Publicis, WPP (mainly a Unilever agency so this will be interesting) and current flavour of the moment in Cincinnati, Wieden+Kennedy. Gillette spends about $300m annually at [...]

Jeff Kling, who resigned as ECD of Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam in August 2010, has re-merged as CCO of Fallon Minneapolis, the HQ of the Publicis Groupe-owned network. Kling has been freelancing since he left W+K. Kling says:”The whole organization really impressed me – super quality people who had their lights on. What I found really refreshing [...]

Finally Australian airline Qantas has made its mind up about something. After a marathon 10-month global ad review waylaid by catastrophic industrial action and a last-minute organisational upheaval, the airline’s got a creative winner. And it is: much-garlanded indie agency Droga5. Droga5 managed to beat off competition from Publicis Mojo on the last section of [...]

Six agencies appear to have made the cut for the first presentations for the £110m Tesco UK account: McCann, SapientNitro, VCCP, WCRS and WPP-owned Grey and JWT. The list may be added to but many people’s favourite Publicis seems to have been ruled out because sister agency Saatchi & Saatchi handles Asda (a long-time Publicis [...]

On LinkedIn there is a group for Chief Marketing Officers which I have joined to see what people talk about these days. Most of it is about all things digital for obvious reasons. One topic as a discussion was ‘what makes a great brand’ and the responses have ranged from the whacky to the intelligent. [...]

The Red Brick Road, Tesco’s UK agency for seven years, has accepted the inevitable and resigned the £110m account, all of it, it seems, including Tesco Bank, Tesco.com and trade marketing which is was supposed to be keeping. Which raises two questions: is there a future for TRBR? And where else can Tesco go other [...]
