It’s always a nervous time for agencies when a big client changes hands and they don’t come much bigger than Heinz with its iconic brands, $12bn of global sales and $370m ad budget. The key to what happens next at the Pittsburgh-based food giant is not avuncular investor Warren Buffett, the Cherry Coke-swigging 82-year old [...]

Well we didn’t see this one coming. Aegis, the global media planning and buying group, has agreed a $3.16bn sale to Japanese marcoms giant Dentsu, owner of the Mcgarrybowen creative agency. The 240p a share offer is a 48 per cent premium to yesterday’s share price in London which valued the company at £1.9bn. So, [...]

Marcoms giant WPP grew its like-for-like revenue four per cent in the first quarter of 2011, slightly ahead of budget and roughly in line with recent figures from biggest rivals Omnicom and Publicis Groupe. Latin America was the fastest-growing region with the double-dip recession UK doing surprisingly well at three per cent. Pleasingly for boss [...]

Havas is to spend €253m ($336m) buying back 12 per cent of its shares, a move that will boost majority owner Vincent Bollore’s shareholding from 32.84 per cent to 37.32 per cent. The buy-back is at €4.90 share, a healthy 21 per cent premium to the current price and values Havas at around €2bn. Havas [...]

And doubtless in years to come too. Aegis Group CEO Jerry Buhlmann (pictured), basking in the glow of record profits and growth numbers, has found time to peer into his crystal ball (who does he think he is? Martin Sorrell?) and forecasts that digital advertising will overtake print worldwide some time in 2012 or 2013. [...]

Aegis Group, which owns the Carat and Vizeum media buying agencies, out of home agency Posterscope and digital network Isobar, achieved organic growth of 9.9 per cent in 2011 (12.2 per cent in the last quarter) as profits soared to £197m from an adjusted figure of £151m. Its income rose 21 per cent to £1.14bn. [...]

Aegis Group, owner of the Carat and Vizeum media buying networks, is a force to be reckoned with these days and one of its most interesting aspects is its other business, digital agency network Isobar. In recent years the big traditional agency networks have succeeded in reining in digital independents by poaching their staff and, [...]

For years now Carat owner Aegis has been seen as a tasty item on the menu for one of the acquisitive marcoms companies, possibly as one to be divided up between them as WPP for example, which owns MediaCom, Mindshare and MEC under its GroupM banner, would be prevented from buying the whole lot. Or [...]

At the moment it’s a losing bet too: with all the big marcoms companies having now posted their third quarter results WPP is lagging the field with organic growth of just 4.9 per cent, thanks in large measure to a 0.2 per cent decline in its consumer insight division, research to you and me. Aegis, [...]

Most commentators see French tycoon Vincent Bollore, chairman of Havas and the biggest individual shareholder in both Havas (33 per cent) and Aegis (26.5 per cent) as the key player in the unfolding drama of media buyer Aegis, which is discussing the sale of its Synovate market research firm to French research giant Ipsos for [...]
