38 year-old Carter Murray (left), a Brit who made his name in Europe with Leo Burnett and Publicis, is leaving his job as head of Y&R’s North American operations to take over from Laurence Boschetto as head of Interpublic’s troubled DraftFCB. Murray told Ad Age: “I like big challenges and I like big opportunities and [...]

The rumour mill says he is, on account of his supposedly less than fulsome references to either in recent analyst calls. Back in March my colleague Stuart Smith reported that Nick Brien, head of McCann Worldgroup, would be on his bike following a ruckus with big client L’Oreal which declined McCann’s invitation to be lumped [...]

Miller Coors, the North American beer venture between SAB Miller and Molson Coors, has sacked long-time Coors agency Interpublic-owned DraftFCB and succumbed to the temptations of an offer from WPP to combine the talents of JWT, Ogilvy, Y&R and Grey. The account is worth about $200m. Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi has held on to [...]

Interpublic CEO Michael Roth must be a rather worried man this Christmas; the holding company has hauled itself out of the knacker’s yard but two of his big agency networks, DraftFCB and McCann Erickson are not performing while the third, Lowe & Partners, is recovering but still worryingly dependent on the good offices of Unilever. [...]

Something seems to be stirring under the bonnet of the stately Ogilvy & Mather limousine (‘At sixty miles an hour the loudest…) as the WPP-owned agency has added to its triumph in sharing the $1bn SC Johnson account with Omnicom’s BBDO by pinching $500m Philips from Omnicom’s DDB, the incumbent since 2003. If this is [...]

Verizon is one of Interpublic-owned McCann Erickson’s biggest accounts (in total Verizon spent about $1.9bn on media in 2010) and the departure of New York president Thom Gruler means that the three top people on the account have all recently left the New York agency. Adweek reminds us that Gruhler’s departure follows those of creative [...]

Life really doesn’t get any better for Interpublic’s McCann Erickson and its bosses Nick Brien, head of McCann Worldgroup, and Linus Karlsson, chairman and CCO of both McCann New York and McCann London. Now Applebee’s Neighbourhood Grill & Bar has announced it is dumping McCann New York although it is staying with sibling media agency [...]

After a year-long review Interpublic’s McCann Erickson has lost its foundation account Exxon Mobil, the world’s biggest oil company, to Omnicom’s BBDO although media agency Universal McCann retains its media business. Other losers include Omnicom’s DDB which had handled the Exxon fuels business since 2000 and Euro RSCG which loses the corporate account. Exxon spends [...]
