UK agency Dare got off to a rocky start with its new Comparethemarket.com client, enlisting blandest-of-the-bland sports presenter Sue Barker and a rather worrying big gun to try to nix ‘former’ ad presenter Gio Compario. Noisy tenor Gio remains the focus of the ads but this time Dare has signed super-scintist Stephen Hawking and his [...]

Audience researcher Nielsen reckons a Meerkats ad from VCCP was the most-liked ad on UK TV last year followed by efforts for the British Heart Foundation (Vinnie Jones from Grey), Kerrygold butter, John Lewis, Birds Eye Foods, Lindt chocolates, Andrex (a guide dogs appeal), TV marketing body Thinkbox, Carte Noire coffee and Cathedral City cheese. Ambulance-chasing ads drive you up the wall if, like me, you end up watching too many digital channels of an afternoon as you escape from the computer before commencing the evening’s entertainments. But Now, the agency we forecast might become Then, has made its debut with a chirpy ad for one such company, Claims Direct. [...]

Kia’s hamsters are the US version of Comparethemarket’s meerkats I guess and the inventive rodents are back in this David & Goliath campaign for Kia’s Soul MPV. 90 per cent of US car ads (the Super Bowl ones anyway) seem to feature dogs these days so credit to David & Goliath for the miraculous longevity [...]

Price comparison website Gocompare.com is reviewing its £28m creative account according to Campaign, something we predicted it might do back in September when it moved its media account to Carat. Not before time either as the amount of nasty, invasive noise generated by these sites is becoming intolerable; it’s not just Gocompare’s bellowing tenor Gio [...]

Which is presumably one of the things new agency VCCP was aiming for. Although it wouldn’t have known what the new BA campaign from Bartle Bogle Hegarty was going to look like it was a safe bet it wouldn’t take the surprisingly cheap and cheerful approach shown here – a kind of Butlins for Europe [...]

Carling has had its famous campaigns in the past – most notably ‘I bet he drinks Carling Black Label’ from WCRS – but a common feature has been its positioning as a cheap guzzle for the lads. But owner Molson Coors recently switched the business from Beattie McGuinness Bungay (who had essayed a spin on [...]

They’re getting classy these days, UK price comparison websites, and Moneysupermarket.com has raised the stakes a bit by hiring Mother to handle its £25m (media equivalent) creative advertising. The business moves from Dare whose swan song was quite a nice ad featuring politician John Prescott. Mother, which seems to have been a bit quiet recently, [...]

UK budget airline Easyjet is reviewing its creative account at Publicis following a change of top management while furniture megastore DFS is doing the same to its whopper £92m media account, the eighth-biggest in the UK according to Campaign. And, just to create a trio, price comparison site moneysupermarket.com is reviewing its creative account even [...]

It’s been a bumper year for TV advertising in the UK with revenue up between 15 and 20 per cent over 2009. Interestingly online companies are taking more of the top spots according to Nielsen, accounting for ten of the top 200 advertisers, up from four in 2009. Some of these are our old friends [...]
