IPG’s Michael Roth on the future of agencies and the technology companies’ land grab

We hear a lot from WPP’s Sir Martin Sorrell and nearly as much from Maurice Levy of Publicis Groupe (quite often about their respective views of each other).

Far less from Omnicom’s John Wren (he’s probably trying to work out where to invest his money) and Michael Roth of Interpublic.

Just happened across this Beet.TV interview with Roth, from the CES in Las Vegas earlier in the year. The title is a touch misleading, he’s not talking primarily about media agencies (the performance of which is currently a problem for IPG).

Seems very sensible and surely he’s right to say that agencies need to be advisory businesses to compete with the likes of Google and Facebook who are trying to grab share for their ‘platforms.’ Which may not be quite how things are seen at WPP and Publicis.
