Eric Cantona scores for Ogilvy and Kronenbourg

This ad by Ogilvy UK first appeared in February but it’s being given another barrage of airtime; presumably for Christmas and all the lager special offers in the big supermarkets.

It’s a delightfully old-fashioned offering; featuring a celeb (Eric Cantona) and a script that carefully works its way towards a gentle joke – one which improves with age/repeat viewing.

At one point it looks as though it’s going over the top as Queen’s ‘We are the champions’ strikes up, usually a sign of impending disaster. But it keeps it all in check.

And old ‘Ooh-ah-Cantona’ puts in a fine and rather likeable performance. Who’d have thought it?
