Never let it be said that our Diamond Jubilee coverage isn’t better than the BBC’s. We dig down and get the exclusive stories you really want unearthed. Did you know, for instance, that Branston Pickle – Gwyneth Paltrow’s and Catherine Zeta Jones’ relish of choice – has had a right royal makeover for the Jubilee [...]

2012 is beginning to look like the year of musical chairs in adland: Michael Allen (pictured), chairman of 180 in Los Angeles is taking over as CEO of the mini-network started in Amsterdam in 1998 while another top LA executive, McCann president Cathy Saidiner, who was responsible for McCann’s now departed Nestle business in LA, [...]

Word reaches me that Nick Brien (pictured), chief executive officer of Interpublic Group’s troubled leviathan McCann Worldgroup, will be stepping down very shortly. Possibly within a few weeks. The size of Brien’s no doubt handsome severance package is likely to remain a mystery, the reason for his departure less so. McCann has, in recent years, [...]

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has banned a McCann Erickson ad for L’Oreal’s Revitalift Repair anti-ageing cream as the picture of L’Oreal ‘brand ambassador’ and Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz was ‘digitally enhanced.’ Actually it’s had more retouching than the average collapsing Old Master painting (montage of the real Rachel and L’Oreal’s version from The Telegraph). [...]

It seems the keeper of the world’s third largest advertising budget is a bit of a tease. Only the other day Joel Ewanick, General Motors global chief marketing officer, was telling us that, six months into the review, he simply couldn’t make up his mind about where to place GM’s $4.26bn advertising budget. Agencies on [...]

Which is a pretty terrifying prospect for all those copywriters and art directors who think the best solutions to their clients’ problems lie in their own heads. But now Interpublic’s McCann Erickson is trying to import the appliance of science that has revolutionised media planning and buying to creative and account handling with the appointment [...]

Interpublic CEO Michael Roth must be a rather worried man this Christmas; the holding company has hauled itself out of the knacker’s yard but two of his big agency networks, DraftFCB and McCann Erickson are not performing while the third, Lowe & Partners, is recovering but still worryingly dependent on the good offices of Unilever. [...]

Verizon is one of Interpublic-owned McCann Erickson’s biggest accounts (in total Verizon spent about $1.9bn on media in 2010) and the departure of New York president Thom Gruler means that the three top people on the account have all recently left the New York agency. Adweek reminds us that Gruhler’s departure follows those of creative [...]
