Paddy Power and Sky Bet plumb new depths in TV ad wars

The debasement of UK TV advertising at the hands of bookmakers grow apace – we keep hearing there’s a ban coming but it’s taking its time – and here’s our old friend Paddy Power with a new “ambassador’ for his Rewards programme, Rhodri Giggs, brother of Ryan.

Rhodri hove into public view when it transpired that Ryan, then a Manchester United player, was conducting a long-running affair with his then wife.

So who better to tell us about loyalty?

Why do I find this completely distasteful when the Sun and others think it’s “hilarious?”

MAA creative scale: 4.

Mind you, Sky Bet still takes the biscuit for outrageous hucksterism with its campaign using Sky’s Soccer Saturday presenters Jeff Stelling and co. flogging Sky Bets (in which Sky has an interest.) In the middle of their supposedly impartial programme of football comment and analysis – beyond belief.

It’s a though an ITV newsreader broke off to sell you a ticket on BA. Isn’t Ofcom supposed to regulate such things?

The ads are crap too – ugly and vulgar.
