Karmarama has been wielding its cheque book on staff recently – or rather Accenture Interactive’s since it sold to the consultancy-owned digital giant last year – and now Will Collin (left), one of the founders of ‘clever media’ agency Naked, is teaming up again with his old mucker from Naked Jon Wilkins. The duo founded Naked in 2000 with the late John Harlow.
Wilkins is now executive chairman of Karmarama. Collin will work in Karmarama’s strategy team headed by Sid McGrath. But it may be that Karmarama is considering a media operation.
Naked finally gave up the ghost in the UK following the loss of the Virgin Atlantic account but still survives in Australia where it was bought by marcoms group Photon, now called Enero. Its problem was that while it changed the media industry – arguably – its services could be replicated by the big media agencies, essentially for free.
It remains to be seen if Collin sticks around at Karmarama which always seems to be trying to re-invent itself as a different kind of agency. Since the Accenture deal it’s put on some business as it tries to leverage Accenture’s massive global client base.
