Johnnie Walker backs Clinton in Anomaly’s election ad

It’s the big day tomorrow (Tuesday) in the US and the rest of the world besides.

Last week we were a bit sceptical about a JWT report that reckoned younger people (sometimes) got their political messages from brands.

Well here’s Diageo’s Johnnie Walker, courtesy of agency Anomaly, launching a new campaign timed for US election day called ‘Keep Walking America’ (maybe a sign that it ditched BBH’s strategy too soon).

Much more significant though is the V/O with a full version of Woody Guthrie’s ‘This Land is Your Land,’ including a section in Spanish. The Donald is none too keen on Mexicans, you might recall, and Clinton depends on the latino vote if she’s going to win.

Guthrie was derided in the US as a communist (actually he was a communist) until Bob Dylan resuscitated him for the Sixties generation.

Brave by Diageo and Anomaly.

Should big companies delve into politics? Don’t think they should.

But we live in strange times..
