Kenya’s Scangroup lets WPP take the lead role

Here’s a development to bring a warm glow to Sir Martin Sorrell’s heart.

Kenya’s Scangroup is a marketing services company (it claims to be the biggest in sub-Saharan Africa) majority owned by Sorrell’s WPP. Now it’s renamed itself WPP Scangroup, to reflect the “shared vision and values” of itself and WPP.

scanCEO Bharat Thakrar (left) says: “The synergy from the coming together of these two great firms will significantly transform the future of marketing communications across this fascinating continent. This is aptly captured by the famous African proverb that says: If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Quite so. This boy will, indeed, go far.

Do you think it will set a trend? WPP Ogilvy, WPP Y&R, WPP Mindshare? Has a certain ring, from a certain perspective.
