Google and YouTube’s top tips for Cannes

Google has, once again, produced what it calls its Cannes to Cannes YouTube ads leaderboard, high-scoring ads on the channel assessed according to views plus other mysterious Google metrics.

Its own 2014 ‘Rewind’ from Portal A comes top (last year’s 2013 effort came second) which is a bit unsporting but Portal A seems to have cracked this particular art. In fact, whether you’re interested in Cannes or not, there’s some formidable filming here.

So here are YouTube’s Top Tips For Cannes:

1. YouTube: YouTube Rewind: Turn Down for 2014
Creative Agency: Portal A

2. Nike Football: The Last Game – Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Rooney, Zlatan, Iniesta & more

Last year’s Leaderboard was, in order: Turkish Airlines – Kobe v Messi: The Selfie from Crispin Porter+Bogusky; YouTube – YouTube Rewind: What does 2013 say?/Portal A; WREN – First Kiss; Volvo Trucks -The Epic Split/Forsman & Bodenfors; Budweiser – Superbowl XLVIII commercial – Puppy Love/Anomaly; Nike Football – Winner Stays/Wieden+Kennedy Portland; Pantene: Labels Against Women I #ShineStrong/BBDO Guerrero Ortega; Google: Google Zeitgeist I – Here’s to 2013/adam&eveDDB; Save the Children: Most shocking second a day video/Don’t Panic and Cornetto: Keyfi Yolunda, Aski Sonunda/MOFILM.

R/GA was the most awarded agency at the UK’s D&AD Awards and, with two entries here, must be a strong contender for this year’s Cannes Agency of the Year (won last year by the UK’s adam&eveDDB).

Nice to see BETC’s ‘France is in the air’ (a proper ad, surely the best use of just 45 seconds) making the list.
