YouTube celebrates ten years with best ad contest

YouTube says it’s ‘come of age, – it’s ten, which is stretching the point a little.

It was, indeed, founded in 2005 (by three former PayPal employees) and sold to Google in 2006 for a whopper $1.65bn.

At the time, most people thought Google was mad as YouTube had no revenues. No idea what they are now but it’s become probably the biggest broadcaster on the planet.

And home to countless ads, happy to reach millions of people for free.

So it’s made a selection of the best/most popular ads, which you can find here and vote for. Most of the usual suspects are in there, including Forsman & Bodenfors’ ‘Epic Split’ for Volvo Trucks and Deutsch LA’s ‘The Force’ for VW.

This one, Wren clothing’s ‘First Kiss,’ directed by Tatia Pilieva, is tops in terms of views with over 102m. It’s probably the best example of using the medium cleverly as well.
