Heimat’s Tina Turner Swisscom ad shows that Switzerland’s not just the home of cuckoo clocks

We’ve been to Denmark and Russia already today and now it’s time for Switzerland, via Heimat in Berlin.

Switzerland hasn’t always won good notices. As Harry Lime played by Orson Welles, put it to Holly Martins in The Third Man: “Don’t be so gloomy. After all it’s not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love – they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.”

A touch harsh but you get the point. Songstress Tina Turner is a fan though, now a Swiss citizen she values the place for its “security and discretion.” Which is maybe another way of saying it’s a good place to keep your money.

So the Heimat agency in Berlin has enlisted her to make this intriguing film for Swisscom’s free calls iO app. Very good it is too – how did they manage to dress Ms Turner and the immortal Ikettes in Swiss Family Robinson garb?

Here are the gals in more traditional attire.

Think I’d better have a cup of tea.
