New Planet of the Apes film causes World Cup storm
One of the summer’s big films is Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and a couple of trailers for it certainly frightened the horses – and the nation’s children apparently – when they were shown in the ad breaks in and around the World Cup semi-final between Argentina and Holland.
ITV has had more than 100 complaints from outraged parents.
Actually it was all very clever, with the first ad being followed with another showing the reaction on Twitter (positive, obviously). And it’s certainly got people outside advertising chattering about an ad (I know it’s really a trailer) for the first time in ages.
Here’s the offending ad, courtesy of the Telegraph.
And the official American trailer, if you want a bit more ape.
Too violent for TV? Don’t think so. It does what it says on the tin, after all. And at £250,000 a pop you need to make these ads count.
Be interesting to see what, if anything, appears in the World Cup final on Sunday.
