Guinness ‘Surfers’ supporters say it is about beer

The new Guinness ‘Cloud’ ad, which we castigated here last week doesn’t seem to have too many supporters, but a number of people have challenged my comment that the famous ‘Surfers’ ad by Jonathan Glazer had bugger all to do with beer.

Of course it has something to do with Guinness, ‘Here’s to waiting’ and ‘Good things come to those who..’ references the amount of time it takes the pour the stuff, regardless of whether you get a shamrock on top.

It’s all a bit chicken and egg, I suppose. Does the ad work because it says something relevant and enticing about Guinness or is the proposition just an excuse for a great film (which works, kind of, as a proposition because it’s so good)?

As for ‘Cloud’..
