McCann creative supremo Linus Karlsson goes global

London and New York cannot contain him. Advertising’s best-known Swede, Linus Karlsson – the explosive creative ingredient shaking up McCann Erickson Worldwide – has gone global.

Karlsson, already chairman and chief creative officer for the London and New York offices of McCann, and Andreas Dahlqvist, vice chairman and executive creative director at McCann Erickson New York, have been given even more responsibilities to add to their existing ones. Karlsson becomes chief creative officer for global brands at McCann and chairman of the agency’s global Creative Leadership Collective, but will continue as chairman of the London and New York offices.

Parenthetical question: can creative leadership be collective? The very idea of creative group think sounds like an oxymoron. But that’s McCann for you.

Dahlqvist, meanwhile, becomes deputy chief creative officer for global brands, while remaining vice chairman of the New York office. Sean Bryan and Tom Murphy, executive creative directors at McCann Erickson New York, are to assume most of the creative duties handled by Karlsson and Dahlqvist in that part of the world, after being promoted to co-chief creative officers.

Any more of these extra responsibilities and poor old Linus will be going ballistic.
