This year’s race for London mayor between Tory incumbent Boris Johnson and Labour’s Ken Livingstone is hotting up with, first, Boris miles ahead then Ken catching up and now the bizarrely popular Boris inching ahead again.
BETC London, a new venture from the Havas-owned Paris agency, is trying to make a name for itself in the time-honoured way of stirring up trouble and its ‘Borisstoppers’ campaign for Livingstone is a clever spin on ‘Crimestoppers.’
This ad will actually succeed in annoying Boris and his chums because he’s battled hard against coalition government home secretary Theresa May’s plans to reduce police numbers. The ad itself is a take on the famous 1960s ad ‘Watch, out, there’s a thief about.’
But BETC has obviously learned from the press that you should never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
