Tham Khai Meng, worldwide CCO of Ogilvy & Mather, will head up both the Film and Press juries at the 2012 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, taking place in Cannes from June 17-23.
A graduate of London’s Royal College of Art, Meng began his career at Leo Burnett in London then Chicago before moving to Batey Ads in Singapore where his work as creative director for Singapore Airlines made his name. He joined Ogilvy & Mather in 2000 as regional creative director and co-chairman of its Asia Pacific network. In 2009, he moved to New York as worldwide CCO and chairman of the Worldwide Creative Council at Ogilvy.
He has worked on clients including American Express, Cadbury’s, Coca-Cola, China Mobile, Heinz, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Kraft and also chaired a number of important juries, including serving at Cannes.
Last year’s Press Grand Prix was won by JWT Shanghai for its Samsonite work while the Film gong went to Wieden+Kennedy’s ‘Write the Future’ ad for Nike. This proved a controversial choice against some more innovative contenders although it recently picked up a top award at Epica, which is judged by journalists rather than agency people.
