Nike opens UK Olympics battle with Make it Count sports stars on Twitter

There’ll be a deluge of Olympics-themed ads coming in the early part of 2012 in preparation for the London Olympics in the summer. You’d expect Nike to be quick out of the blocks and so it is with this campaign by AKQA and Wieden+Kennedy featuring sports stars who are also tweeting regularly on Nike’s makeitcount Twitter account.

As ever with these sporting events, it’s quite a poser choosiang your sports stars. Along with a gaggle of basketball players, this AKQA film features various UK luminaries including footballers Jack Wilshere of Arsenal and a rather glum-looking Rio Ferdinand. Neither are very likely to be playing to be playing in the first UK team to enter the Olympics; Wilshere is likely to be required by Fabio Capello for the England team competing in the Euro finals and Ferdinand is mostly injured these days.

But if the stars are on your books, you’d better include them.
