McCann gets its Swedish dividend at last with global account

Well a smallish one anyway as working on furniture giant Ikea’s website seems to be a project deal and previous refurbs of the website were handled by McCann Worldgroup owner Interpublic’s Huge and Deutsch anyway.

But McCann, which has had a torrid time recently, will be pleased to see another bit of a big name client come through the door. It was appointed recently to handle a refurb of the Ikea catalogue.

It’s clearly no coincidence that Ikea has given two bits of business to McCann and its recently appointed chairman of both London and New York, celebrated Swedish creative Linus Karlsson.

So far Karlsson has failed to wrest Ikea’s $300m mainstream advertising away from Oguilvy & Mather in the US or Mother (his alma mater, if that’s not too many mothers) in the UK.

On the face of it this looks like a tall order as Ikea won the Advertiser of the Year award at this year’s Cannes Lions. But he’s made a decent start.
