Interpublic buying spree goes on with with purchase of UK marketing agency Meteorite

Interpublic CEO Michael Roth has acquired a taste for acquisitions recently, buying companies in Brazil, India and the UK, and now the owner of McCann Erickson and DraftFCB is buying Meteorite, a well-established independent London marketing agency with 70 staff that handles Costa Coffee and Royal Mail among other accounts.

Meteorite is ten years old and led by founding partners Hugh Bishop, chairman (pictured), and Debbie Smith, managing director. It is expected to be rolled in with McCann Worldgroup marketing agency MRM, led in London by Mike Cornwell.

Since the summer Interpublc has bought or bought into PR firm S2Publicom in Brazil, UK design agency AllofUs and Indian digital agency Interactive Avenues.

Earlier this week it lured Jimmy Smith from Omnicom’s TBWA in the US to set up a new branded entertainment company, Amusement Park Entertainment. At TBWA Smith devised high profile branded entertainment campaigns for Gatorade and Nike.
