Merged US airline United Continental has appointed Dentsu-owned Mcgarrybowen and indie media shop Horizon to handle its $100m account against competition from Arnold Worldwide and MPG and TBWA and PHD.
Mcgarrybowen, headed by former Y&R veteran John McGarry, is the hottest of the hot at the moment among US agencies, having already won more than $600m of new business this year from Sears and Burger King. Media shop Horizon is also interesting, emerging as the second most important independent media agency behind Aegis although its operations are large confined to the US.
United and Continental merged in October last year and the will fly under the United brand (with the Continental logo). The business is based in Chicago and Houston.
