Saatchi attracts hundreds of entries for Cannes video competition with Moby and Vimeo

Saatchi & Saatchi has attracted nearly 600 entries for its Cannes Lions competition inviting aspiring film directors to explore the theme of ‘Hello Future’ by interpreting one of three tracks from Moby’s new album ‘Destroyed.’

The competition is a joint venture between Saatchi, Vimeo and musician and photographer Moby.

The winner will be unveiled as part of the 21st Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity which starts on June 19.

The ten finalists whose work will be shown at the festival are: Frank Beltrán and Alberto Gomez from Mexico, David Evan Bowers from Louisiana, Brian McCann from Brooklyn, Canadian Lindsay MacKay, Antonin Pevny from Vienna, Oden Roberts and Martin Odahl from Norway, Alexey Terehoff from Belarus and German Roland Wittl.

Moby says: “When the idea of doing the contest was suggested to me, I thought we would maybe have 50 entries or 100 entries, and now we’re up to almost 600. So I’m kind of overwhelmed in a really positive way, by the number of people competing, and the quality of the entries.”

“As the entries rolled in, we were immediately impressed with the level of quality, how directors were using low-cost, high impact photography and post-technology to make slick, highly professional works, and most of all the depth of storytelling talent,” says Tom Eslinger, digital creative director of Saatchi Worldwide. “With nearly 600 to choose from, getting to the final 10 was hard-choice time.”
