JWT Cairo and Vodafone in the mire for claiming credit for ‘Arab Spring’ revolution

Well our Egyptian isn’t up to much, alas, but apparently this ad has angered Egyptians by appearing to claim some credit for the democratic (we hope) revolution in that country.

There’s no doubt that mobile communications and social media have played a role in the empowerment of people throughout the Middle East.

But advertisers and agencies need to be very careful about exploiting this (basically it’s best not to).

But there’s always some clever person, usually in their late twenties, who sees themselves as a spinmeister in the making.

Often these are the kind of people who would take on the Caligula’s horse account if it paid its bills on time.

Is this one such? You be the judge, as we say when we don’t really know.
