Alleged fraudster arrested in US for milking gullible ad agencies in drinks business scam

One Gilbert Solnin, a Long Island ‘beverage consultant,’ has been arrested and charged with fraud for taking fees from a number of gullible ad agencies for promising to award them advertising work for a non-existent new drinks company in return for a total of more than $400,000 in monthly retainers.

When they inquired as to the whereabouts of the business he avoided their calls and sometimes claimed he had been involved in a car accident.

Solnin claimed he was a former adman who had also worked on Crown Royal whisky at Seagram. He approached the agencies, mostly via email, between 2006 and 2010, charging monthly retainers of between $3,500 and $8,000.
