Publicis Worldwide “completes Balkan expansion” with purchase of three agencies in Romania

The ever-acquisitive Publicis Groupe has bought three long-time partner agencies in Romania, Publicis Romania, Focus Advertising and Publicis Events, and added them to the Publicis Worldwide network.

The new company will be called Grupul Publicis Communications Services Bucharest.

Publicis Groupe also owns Saatchi & Saatchi, media agency Starcom and 49 per cent of Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

The Romanian business was founded in 1994 by Teddy Dumitrescu, who remains as CEO, and first partnered with Publicis Worldwide in 1995. COO Richard Pinder says “it’s great to get married” and “complete our Balkan expansion.”

The three Romanian agencies handle big Publicis clients including Nestle, Renault, L’Oreal and Procter & Gamble.

Publicis boss Maurice Levy has been active with his cheque book recently, buying 49 per cent of full service Talent in Brazil and also digital agency AG2.

There is also renewed speculation that the company, the world’s third biggest marcoms group behind WPP and Omnicom, might make a bid for number four company Interpublic.
