The ever-popular Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, is about to annoy the world yet again by trademarking the word face.
The social network site, now with over half a billion members worldwide, has been given leave to file a notice of allowance by the US Patent & Trademark Office, the first step towards trademarking. If this were to happen it would lead to utter chaos worldwide with Facebook’s lawyers pursuing innocent companies across the globe, like Easyjet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou has been trying to do with the word ‘easy’ for the past decade.
Facebook has already taken action against some companies for using face and book although even Zuckerberg and his cohorts might draw the line at trying to monopolise book.
Aside from the legal aspects the move surely indicates that Facebook is intending to launch a raft of new products to cash in on its global success. One of the first such is rumoured to be a mobile phone.
