The Epica awards were founded 24 years ago by former adman Andrew Rawlins to award the best work in Europe. It’s since expanded to include more of Middle East and Africa but remains a very good guide to the best creative work.
This year Y&R scored strongly, a testament perhaps to the impact made by WPP’s new creative supremo John O’Keefe who seems intent on beating Omnicom in the awards stakes.
At first the awards were ridiculed because the jury is comprised of trade journalists from across Europe rather than top creatives. But actually the journalists do a very good job (and at least they turn up).
